President Donald Trump is visiting the Federal Reserve headquarters in Washington on Thursday, a week after indicating that Fed chair Jerome Powell’s handling of an extensive renovation project on two Fed buildings could be grounds for firing.

“It’s by now widely agreed, almost all over the world: If you leave monetary policy in political hands, you’ll get too much inflation,” Alan Blinder, a professor of economics at Princeton University and former vice chairman of the Federal Reserve, told ABC News.

On July 24, President Trump had a tense exchange with Federal Reserve Chief Jerome H. Powell over the budget of ongoing building renovations.
