Police officials say two blasts near Brazil’s Supreme Court on Wednesday night are being treated as terrorist acts by a lone suicide bomber.

A Brazilian Supreme Court justice says that the explosion outside the court in Brasilia was the consequence of frequent far-right attacks and hate speech targeting the country’s institutions.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said on Thursday that the suicide bomber who tried to get into the top court on Wednesday had intended to blow up the building, casting it as part of a growing wave of attacks on democracy.

What was believed to be a lone wolf terrorist attack resulted in several explosions in Brasília on Wednesday evening.

Two explosions on Wednesday outside Brazil’s Supreme Court killed a man and forced the justices and staff to evacuate the building in the capital of Brasilia.
