U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a trade deal with Indonesia, the latest pact in a bid to cement better terms with trading partners and reduce a massive trade deficit, even as the European Union readied retaliatory measures should talks between Washington and its top trading partner fail.

The US leader pushes for more favourable terms, negotiating additional deals while working to shrink the large trade deficit.

President Trump announced his team struck a trade deal with Indonesia on Tuesday that will see goods from the country face a 19% tariff. The announcement comes after Trump unveiled a new batch of letters to over 20 trade partners outlining tariffs on goods imported from their countries beginning in August.
