Josef Fares is passionate about cooperative video games. The Lebanese Swedish director has built a studio focused on making games that can only be played by two people.

Split Fiction is an obligate co-op game. For this review, my husband Travis and I hopped between Mio’s futuristic cities and Zoe’s fantastical kingdoms like walking through the cars of a passenger train. In each section, we got a new set of powers designed to work only in that particular world.

Split Fiction” pushes the limits of genre and co-op gameplay in an imaginative adventure through two wildly different worlds.

What’s more, Split Fiction’s cooperative gameplay never felt phoned-in, with interactive levels that facilitated gameplay synergy (and tons of trial-and-error platforming and boss fight deaths), clutch timing,
