Walmart CEO Doug McMillon says the company is adding two executive positions to oversee its artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Daniel Danker, who previously held the role of chief product officer of Instacart, is joining Walmart as executive vice president, AI Acceleration, Product and Design. In this new role Danker will accelerate Walmart’s AI transformation and lead all product management and design across the enterprise.

AI-powered Caper Carts at Wegmans use cameras, sensors and digital scales to detect items, display real-time spending and enable checkout-free grocery shopping.

Fidji Simo, the former Instacart CEO, is betting she can turn AI from a luxury into a utility that closes the gap between the haves and have-nots.

To use the wheeled tool, Wegmans shoppers can log in to their Shoppers Club account via a screen on the cart. “Caper Carts are transforming everyday grocery shopping into a faster, more personalized experience,” the Chief Connected Stores Officer at Instacart, David McIntosh, said in a statement.
