A moderately strong, 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Lima, Peru on Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The temblor happened at 11:35 a.m. Peru Standard Time about 14 miles southwest of Callao, Peru, data from the agency shows.

Peru, located on the Ring of Fire, experienced a 5.6 magnitude earthquake that killed one and injured 36, AFP reported.

" A strong earthquake registered by the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) as M6.1 hit near the coast of Lima, Peru, at 16:35 UTC (11:35 local time) on June 15, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 49 km (78 miles). USGS is reporting M5.6 at a depth of 53 km (32 miles)," Blaskovic wrote .
