VATICAN CITY (AP) — Heads of state and royalty will start converging on Rome on Friday for the funeral of Pope Francis in the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Square, but the group of poor people who will meet his casket in a small crosstown basilica are more in keeping with Francis’ humble persona and disdain for pomp.

His memorial service is set for Saturday morning at 10 a.m. local time (4 a.m. ET) and his body will be buried at Rome's Basilica of Saint Mary Major in a simple wooden casket, per his request.

The funeral of Pope Francis will be held on April 26. He is currently lying in state at the St Peter’s Basilica, Vatican, where crowds of people have already visited to pay their tributes. Several world leaders are expected to turn up at the funeral to pay their respects to the 88-year-old pontiff.
