Southeast Asians expressed an increased level of trust in the U.S.—and more said they would align themselves with the U.S. over China if forced to choose, a reverse of last year’s aggregated results—according to the latest State of Southeast Asia Survey Report by the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute,

Countries in the export-driven region of Southeast Asia have been hit with particularly high tariffs in the global round of levies announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. Six of the 10 Southeast Asian countries listed had tariff levels of between 32% to 49%.

U.S. President Trump’s latest tariffs have taken aim at some of the fastest-growing economies in Asia, threatening to disrupt trade in places such as Vietnam that are a key part of global supply chains.
