A group of citizens, including a firearm-wielding Perry, confronted the suspect in the parking lot in a dramatic scene that was captured on video by a bystander. A deputy then took the suspect -- 42-year-old Bradford James Gille -- into custody, authorities said.

Bradford James Gille, 42, is suspected of traveling from his home nearly 100 miles away to perpetrate the stabbing attack at the Walmart store in Garfield Township, just outside of Traverse City. He is slated to be arraigned soon on criminal charges that include attempted murder and terrorism.

The charge has been rarely used in the state’s courts since it was adopted more than 20 years ago during the outrage over 9/11.
