U of I sees increase in whooping cough cases
McKinley Health Center is seeing a rising number of people with pertussis, also known as whooping cough. Pertussis is caused by bacteria that live in the mouth, nose and throat. Whooping cough is highly contagious and is easily spread from person-to-person.
ADPH investigating 124 whooping cough cases so far this year
ADPH saw 41 cases in 2023. Now, District Medical Officer Dr. Wes Stubblefield says they’re investigating 124 cases included in seven outbreaks, one of which is here in Jefferson County.
