The Cincinnati Reds' discounted signing of their top pick frees flexibility to make strong bids on tougher-to-sign picks deep in the draft.
Cincinnati Reds third-round draft pick Mason Morris signed with the Reds on Friday, according to Jim Callis of MLB.com. The former Ole Miss Rebel signed for $897,500, which is slightly under the slot.
TreyVeon Henderson, New England’s second-round pick out of Ohio State, officially signed his fully guaranteed deal on Friday. Second-round picks have been signing late around the NFL as the players and teams negotiate over whether or not to guarantee their entire deal.
Dax Kilby’s bat is a big reason why the Yankees were so excited to grab the high school shortstop in the first round of this week’s MLB draft. “He’s got a contact-oriented swing that also has power,” Yankees director of amateur scouting Damon Oppenheimer told reporters this week. “It adapts to being able to hit balls in different quadrants.”
