Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23- 8 UFC) retained his BMF title by outlasting the retiring Dustin Poirier (30-10 MMA, 22-9 UFC) in Saturday's main event at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Holloway had Poirier in trouble a couple of times and outstruck "The Diamond" over the course of the fight. Cormier was very impressed with Holloway's performance.

Poirier and Holloway have fought twice before, and Poirier saw his hand raised on both occasions. In their first fight in 2012, Poirier welcomed the then-20-year-old Holloway to the UFC with a first-round triangle armbar.

Max Holloway said he wanted to play spoiler and he did it Saturday night in the main event. Holloway defeated Dustin Poirier in a unanimous decision to retain the UFC BMF Championship in UFC 318 at the Smoothie King Center.
