Moreau was 60 and a 35-year member of the Plainville Fire Department. A state police spokesman said Moreau, a veteran, was struck by a piece of apparatus that broke free at the fire scene. He died later at the hospital during surgery, state police said. He was described as a loving husband and dedicated volunteer.

According to state police, the piece of the fire truck caused catastrophic injuries to his legs. He was transported to the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, where he died in surgery.
