Ranbir Kapoor will portray Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and the decision led to him stepping away from a singer's biopic, says Anurag Basu.

Ranbir Kapoor will next star in Nitesh Tiwari’s epic film based on the Ramayana, playing Lord Ram. The movie will release in two parts, the first during Diwali 2026, and the second during Diwali 2027.

While talking to BBC, Anurag Basu said that Ranbir was discussing the Kishore Kumar biopic, but he was also offered Ramayana.
