New York was hit with an air quality alert Saturday as smoke from Canadian wildfires drifted across the state, pushing levels of fine particulate pollution into the unhealthy range for sensitive groups.

Around noon on Saturday, New York City Emergency Management issued an air quality health advisory as the Big Apple’s air quality index, or AQI, was forecast to reach 101 to 150.
