Erik and Lyle Menendez were resentenced last week to 50 years to life in prison, which makes them eligible for parole -- a topic that would likely have been broached at their next hearing, originally scheduled for June 13.

They had become too well-known to be forgotten, but for decades, the Menendez brothers faded into the background. Occasional stories emerged about the brothers losing their appeals, as did mugshots of them aging in prison.

A lawyer who worked to get the Menendez brothers a resentencing hearing said the verdict is proof of their rehabilitation work.
