BOSTON — With Giancarlo Stanton not expected at Fenway Park this weekend, Aaron Boone said the Yankees are targeting their upcoming series against the Angels for the slugger’s 2025 debut. “I expect him, in some way, shape or form, in the Angels series, to be in play,” Boone said Saturday.

But the Yankees already have to sit one of Ben Rice, Trent Grisham, Jasson Domínguez, Cody Bellinger or Paul Goldschmidt on a daily basis, and soon two of them (adding Stanton into that group) will be out of the lineup on a given day as long as they all stay healthy.

Ultimately, Aaron Boone indicated, the final call for Giancarlo Stanton's return will be made by Stanton himself.

Giancarlo Stanton was not activated before Friday night’s series opener in Boston, despite seemingly having wrapped up his rehab assignment earlier this week. Manager Aaron Boone told reporters pregame that Stanton was in the Bronx on Friday, working out at Yankee Stadium instead of joining the club at Fenway Park.

Stanton has been sidelined all year so far with tennis elbow in both of his arms. He played in rehab games with Somerset on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Stanton was back at Yankee Stadium on Friday for a light workout and recovery day. Boone said he’ll be able to share Stanton’s Saturday plans definitively later in the evening on Friday.

We haven’t seen Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman and slugger Giancarlo Stanton on a big league field together since Sept. 25, 2024. But both were in action Wednesday for the Double-A Somerset Patriots as part of their respective rehab assignments.
