President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in response to protests in Los Angeles this weekend was the first time a U.S. president had taken such action in 60 years - and the last time came in Alabama.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has argued that the deployment is “an illegal act, an immoral act, an unconstitutional act.”

Trump ordered the National Guard to Los Angeles to quell concrete-hurling protesters opposed to tougher immigration enforcement.
