Former UConn women's basketball star Paige Bueckers was the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft a week after leading UConn to a national championship.

It was a battle of the top two picks from the 2025 WNBA draft between Bueckers and Seattle’s Dominique Malonga. Malonga shares a home country with Wembanyama, as both are from France and have both played for the French national team.

Paige Bueckers scored 10 points in her WNBA debut with the Dallas Wings, but was no match for Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx.
