By CARLA K. JOHNSON AP Medical Writer Former President Joe Biden’s office said Sunday that he has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer and is reviewing treatment options with his doctors.

Metastatic (Stage 4): The cancer has spread to distant parts of the body. For prostate cancer, this often means lymph nodes, bones – as in Biden’s case – liver or lungs.

Biden has a long history with the University of Pennsylvania Health System generally and specifically with the Abramson Cancer Center, where he launched his cancer "moonshot" initiative in 2016.

Biden's diagnosis came on May 16 after he experienced "urinary symptoms," a common warning sign for the disease. Doctors also discovered a nodule on his prostate, according to a statement.
