Smoke from wildfires in Manitoba, a Western province facing its worst fire season in 30 years, has created hazardous air quality conditions across Eastern Canada and the United States.

Heavy smoke and thick fumes triggered air-quality alerts in vast swaths of the country Monday, as some areas in Western and Central Canada are experiencing one of the most destructive wildfire seasons in recent decades.

Much of Central Canada and Manitoba are under special air quality statements or warnings today amid smoke from wildfires burning in parts of the country. Environment Canada says swaths of Ontario and Quebec will have poor air quality and reduced visibility as westerly winds bring in smoke from forest fires into the area.
