The Trump administration asked the justices to set aside an injunction blocking its layoffs of 1,400 Education Department employees.

The Department of Health and Human Services finalized the layoffs of thousands of employees after a Supreme Court ruling cleared the way for the Trump administration to proceed with mass firings across the government.

The Education Department can move forward with layoffs of around 1,300 employees it previously notified it would cut after the Supreme Court on Monday struck down a court order blocking those reductions from moving forward.
